Time for Projects!
Your milestone piece this half term is a short
project about Japan. You should hand this in
during your first lesson after the half term holiday
This week you should find out 10 facts about Japan.
You may like to create a little fact file for display in your classroom.
Bring this to your next lesson!
Coming soon…….new unit on ‘Japan’
We will be not only looking at Japan but hope to also look at what is happening in other countries in this part of the world such as China. Perhaps you can think of a better title for this unit of work!
Natural Hazards – Volcanoes
Having watched ‘Dante’s Peak’ you should now:
- Describe the events that led up to the eruption of the volcano
- Describe what happened when the volcano erupted.

Where are the world’s rainforests?
The map shows the location of the world’s tropical rainforests. Rainforests cover only a small part of the earth’s surface – about 6%, yet they are home to over half the species of plants and animals in the world.
Week beginning 5th November 2007
Ecosystems
You will be starting a new unit of work this week on ‘Ecosystems’. We will be looking at local ecosystems such as the beech woodland near school and international ecosystems such as the tropical rainforest.
An ecosystem is a living community of plant and animals sharing an environment with non-living elements such as climate and soil.
You can learn a few terms by clicking this hyperlink to play a game of ‘Fling the Teacher’.

Your letter should tell her about:

- what is the main problem
- your possible solutions to reducing or preventing the crimes around school
Remember that this is an assessed piece of work and must be handed in next lesson.
9.3 and 9.4…..you too will be getting this work when we have done our crime survey around school.
Week beginning 1st October 2007
A Crime Story
This week we would like you to become a reporter for the local newspaper.
Your task is to find someone who has been a victim of crime.
They might have been burgled, had their car broken into or had personal belongings stolen.
You must interview them.
Find out:
- What was the crime?
- What happened? Get the details of the event.
- When did it occur?
- Where did it happen?
- How did they feel?
- How do they think it affected other people? (their family, neighbours, friends….)
- What action was taken to deal with the offender?
- Do they think the action taken was fair?
- Have they taken any action to make sure the crime does not happen to them again?
